- Коли і як потрапив Тарас Шевченко до хати на Пріорці?
Приїхав востаннє в своєму житті до Києва спекотного літа 1859 року. Не хотів обтяжувати друзів, а пішов на мальовничу дачну околицю Пріорку, щоб винайняти собі тимчасове помешкання.
- Хто жив тоді у цій хаті та прийняв поета на квартиру?
Варвара Матвіївна Пашковська, що мешкала тут зі своїми двома доньками, була добре знайома з творами Тараса Шевченка, але ніколи його не бачила. Поет одразу не признався, а на питання хто ви такий будете відповів просто – чоловік.
- Чим привабила поета саме ця хата?
Тим, що тут жили дітки, бо Шевченко побачив дитячі сороченята, що сушилися у дворі й «махали йому рукавчатами». Йому так хотілося бути поряд з дітьми, бо власних не мав, а весь час мріяв про родину.
- Чи залишилися спогади про життя поета на Пріорці?
Спогади господині цієї хати є основою ескпозиції музею хата на Пріорці, де Шевченка представлено не великим поетом і талановитим художником, а «дядьком Тарасом», якого так полюбили місцеві мешканці. Якого частували пісним борщем із сушеними карасями та пшоняною кашою, звареною на раковій юшці. І який, вїдїзжаючи, влаштував дітям «бенкет» з солодощами, подарунками й гучними веселощами.
- Який найцікавіший експонат маєте сьогодні для відвідувачів?
Маємо «білу-білу, наче сметана» дубову хату, про яку так мріяв Шевченко. Він повернувся до Петербурга й зробив проект своєї майбутньої хати, яку хотів будувати на рідній Черкащині, на кручі Дніпра біля Канева. Це точнісінько наша хата. Нездіснена мрія поета про родину й власну оселю.

- When and how did Taras Shevchenko stayed in the house in Priorka?
He came to Kyiv for the last time in his life in the hot summer of 1859. He did not want to burden his friends, instead he went to the picturesque suburbs of Priorka and rented a temporary apartment.
- Who lived in this house then and who took the poet to the apartment?
Varvara Pashkovska, who lived there with her two daughters, was well acquainted with the works of Taras Shevchenko, but have never met the poet before. The poet never once mentioned his name. The answer to the question “Who are you?” - was: “I’m just a man”!
- What attracted the poet to this house?
The fact that children lived there; Shevchenko saw embroidered children’s shirts drying in the yard and "waving their sleeves". He wanted to be around children, because he had no children of his own. Lastly, he always dreamt of a family.
- Are there any memoirs of the poet's life in Priorka?
The memoirs of the hostess of this house are the basis of the exposition of the museum, where Shevchenko is represented not as a great poet and a talented artist, but as "Uncle Taras", who was so loved by the locals. He was treated with meat-less borscht with dried crucian and millet porridge cooked in crab soup. Also, Taras Shevchenko arranged a feast for children with candies, gifts and fun games. That was the reason locals remembered his arrival and the house in which he lived.
- What is the most interesting showpiece there is for visitors today?
We have the "white-white, like sour cream" oak house that Shevchenko dreamed of. He returned to St. Petersburg and started the project for his future house, which he wanted to build in his native Cherkasy region, on the cliff of the Dnieper River near Kaniv. This is exactly our house; the poet's unfulfilled dream of a home and a family.
